What Should You Charge per Square Foot?
Enter your slab cost, waste, labor, edges, cutouts and overhead. The calculator shows your cost per square foot and the price that gives the margin you want.
Job Details
These are example numbers for illustration, not benchmarks. Replace them with your shop's own.
Material
Usable sq ft is the slab area you can use before this job's layout waste; a loss already taken off it does not go in waste again. Waste is the share of the slab this job does not use. Material cost = job sq ft ÷ (1 − waste) × cost per slab sq ft. It shares out the slab cost by area; it does not plan cuts or round up to whole slabs.
Fabrication and installation
A loaded rate is pay plus payroll taxes and benefits. Put templating and travel time in install hours.
Edges and cutouts
Enter only edge and cutout costs not already in your shop or install hours, other material, or overhead. If your hours already cover this work, leave both costs at 0. Leave out overhead already built into these rates.
Overhead
Overhead per sq ft: $20.00. It is applied to this job's 45 sq ft. Count each cost once: leave out overhead already built into your hourly or unit rates.
Your own goal. Margin = profit ÷ price.
Add the price you charge now to see the margin it gives.
